Schmincke Drying Accelerator – Faster Drying for Oil Paints

The Schmincke drying accelerator is a gel-like painting medium (paste) that makes oil paints dry particularly quickly. You mix it straight into the paint when layers need to be ready for overpainting sooner, for example for underpaintings or when you build up several layers.

According to Schmincke, the medium keeps the consistency and gloss level of the oil paint. The quality of the product also stays the same when the colour of the raw material stand oil varies. The 35 ml tube is a handy size for trying the medium out.

Using the drying accelerator

The product is ready to use. Add it directly to undiluted oil paint and mix the two thoroughly on the palette. Schmincke recommends a dosage of 10 to a maximum of 30 %. It is best to start at the lower end and not go above 30 %. If the paste is too stiff for your technique, you can thin it with white spirit if needed. Schmincke recommends individual preliminary tests. Try the mixture on a test piece with your own paints first.

Cleaning and storage

Clean brushes and other tools with turpentine, white spirit or brush cleaner straight after use, before the paint dries on. Close the tube again immediately after use and store it in a cool, dry place.
