Schmincke acrylic painting medium 250 ml – for more gloss and transparency

Schmincke acrylic painting medium is a thin-bodied medium for acrylic paints. You mix it into your paint when you want it to dry more transparent and glossier. According to Schmincke, it improves adhesion compared with water and dries clear. That makes it a good choice for layered painting, where you build up the colour in several thin coats.

The medium consists of pure acrylic dispersion, additives and water. It is ready to use and can be mixed with water in any ratio. The 250 ml bottle gives you plenty in reserve for larger formats or regular painting. For trying it out and small quantities, the same medium is also available in 60 ml.

Working with the medium

Shake the bottle well before use. Put some medium on the palette and mix it with your acrylic paint until the paint has the transparency you want. The more medium you add, the more transparent and glossy the paint dries. Plain water, on the other hand, also thins the binder in the paint; with the medium, according to Schmincke, the paint keeps better adhesion.

• For layered painting, apply the paint in thin coats and let each layer dry through before the next.
• The medium dries clear and does not alter the shade by clouding.
• Close the container immediately after use.

Cleaning and storage

The medium can be mixed with water but dries water-insoluble. Clean brushes and palette straight after painting with water or with water and soap. Use it only at temperatures above 10 °C and protect it from frost and from temperatures above 40 °C.
