Marabu Textil Screen Printing Set – screen printing on light fabrics

With the Marabu Textil Screen Printing Set, you print your own designs onto light textiles such as T-shirts or tote bags using the screen printing method. The set contains black textile paint Lampenschwarz 974 (100 ml), an A5 screen, a small squeegee, a palette knife and a booklet. So you can start straight away once you have a stencil and a suitable textile.

In screen printing, the paint is pressed through a fine-mesh fabric onto the material with the squeegee. Where no design is wanted, the mesh stays closed. For the stencil, use paper or clear film cut to A5. The screen measures 250 × 188 mm and so matches this stencil size. The paint is water-based and has a soft feel, according to Marabu.

Printing step by step

Wash new textiles at least once beforehand without fabric softener, so that no finish interferes with the paint. The best results are achieved on 100 % cotton.

• Cut the stencil from paper or clear film to A5 and cut out the design
• Stir the paint well before use
• Position the stencil and screen as described in the booklet, apply paint to the screen and pull it through with the squeegee
• Leave the paint to dry completely
• Fix: 8 minutes in the oven at 150 °C, or iron for 3 minutes without steam

Suitable textiles, and care for the print and screen

The set is intended for light textiles that are free from finish and fabric softener and contain no more than 20 % synthetic fibre. Wash printed items inside out with a mild detergent at no more than 40 °C. Do not iron with a hot iron directly on the print; iron from the reverse side or through a cloth. Clean the screen and tools with water straight away, while the paint is still wet. Afterwards, dab the screen dry with a lint-free cloth, as the wooden frame can warp from moisture.
