Botz stoneware glaze 9865 Eukalyptus – satin-matt with green-blue-grey effects

Botz stoneware glaze 9865 Eukalyptus is a richly coloured, satin-matt glaze for stoneware with fine green-blue-grey effects. It is a liquid glaze applied with a brush and fired in the stoneware range of 1220 to 1280 °C. The tin contains 800 ml.

The glaze is opaque. Its appearance depends on the firing temperature: colour, gloss and the play of effects shift as the temperature changes. This means you can control the result through the firing.

How firing temperature changes the colour

Eukalyptus reacts clearly to temperature. The glaze can be used across the whole firing range of 1220 to 1280 °C, with 1250 °C recommended. Choose the temperature according to the look you want:

• 1220 °C: bluer colouring, more matt, less play of effects
• 1250 °C: medium green-blue shade, granite-matt, attractive play of effects
• 1280 °C: greener, glossier, pronounced effects

Application and firing

Stir the glaze thoroughly before use so that the colour pigments are evenly distributed. Apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush; Botz recommends 3 coats rather than 2. Let each coat dry well before applying the next, so the colour turns out rich and even. Fire at 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. If you want stronger or weaker effects, fire at 1280 °C or 1220 °C.

Choosing your glaze

The colour result also depends on your clay and your kiln. Make a test piece from your own clay at the planned firing temperature before glazing larger pieces. For tests, Eukalyptus is also available in the smaller 200 ml tin.
