The GRIGIO Synthetics Set series 5103 from da Vinci contains four artist brushes in three shapes for acrylic and oil paints: two flat brushes, a filbert and a round brush. The synthetic fibres are slightly textured, so they hold paint well. With a single set you can lay in areas, define edges and paint details.

All the brushes have a silver ferrule and a long, hexagonal handle in burgundy. The long handle lets you work at a little distance from the canvas, for example at an easel. The set is a good choice if you are looking for a small basic kit for a variety of tasks and want to try out the shapes first.

Which brush for what?

The three shapes in the set each have a different job.

• Flat brush (series 7195, no. 4 and 8): for even areas, straight edges and broad strokes; the smaller no. 4 for narrower areas
• Filbert (series 7495, no. 8): rounded tip, suitable for soft edges, gradations and blending colour transitions
• Round brush (series 7795, no. 2): for fine lines, outlines and small details

Care after painting

Wipe off excess paint after painting and rinse out acrylic paint with water straight away, before it dries on the ferrule. Remove oil paint with the cleaner you normally use for oil paints. Then leave the brushes to dry lying flat, so that no water runs into the ferrule and the shape of the bristles is kept.
