Prym Stretch Twin Needle 2.5/75 – two parallel seams on stretch fabrics

The Prym Stretch double sewing machine needle (art. no. 154910) sews two parallel rows of stitching in one pass. You can use it for decorative seams, topstitching, pintucks and one- or two-colour seams, especially on stretch fabrics such as jersey, T-shirt fabric or knitted fabric. According to Prym, the specially shaped point ensures reliable stitch formation. The needle spacing of 2.5 mm produces narrow, closely spaced double seams.

The needle has a flat shank and is designed for zigzag sewing machines. It fits standard domestic sewing machines.

Sewing with the twin needle

Insert the needle with the flat shank in the usual way, as with a normal needle, and thread two threads, one for each needle. Set a straight stitch. Turn the first few stitches by hand using the handwheel so you can see whether the needles pass freely through the needle plate. On thin jersey, the seam is often easier to sew if you guide the fabric rather than pull it. Using two different thread colours gives two-colour decorative seams.

Which needle spacing should you choose?

With 2.5 mm, the two seams sit close together, which suits fine hems and narrow decorative lines. If you want a wider spacing, choose the Prym Stretch twin needle with 4.0 mm needle spacing.
