When is size 60 right?

A thin needle makes small holes. It therefore suits lightweight, finely woven fabrics such as silk, batiste or thin cotton. Use a fine sewing thread with it. For firmer fabrics, choose size 70 or 80 from the same range.

Inserting and changing the needle

Insert the needle as shown in your machine's instructions: the flat shank has one flat side, which fits into the needle bar in one direction only. Change the needle as soon as it is blunt or bent. Typical signs are skipped stitches, pulling threads or small holes in the fabric.
