Rico Design Monk's Cloth – Loosely Woven Cotton Fabric for Punch Needle

Rico Design monk's cloth (art. no. 18906.50.92) is a base fabric for punch needle projects. It is loosely woven from 100 % cotton in a basketweave (panama weave) and has an extra soft handle. Thanks to the loose weave, the punch needle passes easily through the fabric.

With 4.6 stitches/cm and a weight of 405 g/m², it gives a firm base for pictures, cushions or decorations. The cut piece measures 50 × 140 cm, so you can work several motifs or one larger project from it.

Preparing the fabric

Cut a piece to suit your motif and leave a generous margin all round. The fabric draws in slightly as you punch, and the margin gives you leeway for framing and finishing. Then stretch the fabric taut in a frame, because the loops only come out even on tightly stretched fabric. Draw your motif on with a fabric pen and work one area at a time.

Suitable projects

The figure of 4.6 stitches/cm helps you plan: it shows how closely you can place the punches. The fabric suits wall hangings, cushion covers, small rugs and coasters. For decorative items that get used, bear the care instructions in mind: the fabric is hand wash only and must not go in the tumble dryer.
