Rico Design wooden tissue box holder – untreated, to paint and decorate

The Rico Design tissue box holder is a rectangular wooden blank for you to customise. Paint it or cover it however you like and turn it into a one-off piece for the bathroom, your desk or as a gift.

The wood has a natural finish, so it is untreated and takes paint and glue straight away. At 27 × 13.5 × 7.5 cm, the lid and sides give you enough room for larger designs and continuous patterns.

Decorating the holder

Lightly sand any rough spots and fibres first, then remove the dust. Untreated wood soaks up a lot of paint, so a coat of primer is worthwhile, especially for light colours. Then apply the paint in thin layers and let each layer dry; this gives a more even finish than one thick coat. Alternatively, cover the holder with napkins, paper or fabric. Use a glue that bonds to wood and does not soak through thin materials. Finally, you can protect the surface with varnish.
