Metal banding wheel Ø 23 cm – ball-bearing, for modelling and glazing
The metal banding wheel with a Ø 23 cm head turns your piece while you shape, paint and glaze clay and ceramics. It is made of heavy, rustproof die-cast zinc. Its weight keeps it running smoothly and evenly. The ball-bearing mechanism gives light, precise rotation.
The surface of the turntable head is flat-turned and has centring grooves. Use them to line up your piece neatly, so that it does not drift off-centre as it turns.
Working with the banding wheel
A banding wheel is turned by hand and has no motor. That is handy when you build a piece from coils or slabs, work on a form from all sides, or paint and glaze evenly.
- Place the piece centrally on the head, using the centring grooves.
- Turn the wheel slowly with one hand and work on the piece with the other.
- When glazing and painting, hold the brush steady and let the wheel turn past it. This gives an even line.
- Wipe any clay residue off the head after working.
Which size to choose
At Ø 23 cm, the head suits medium-sized bowls, vases and lidded jars. This range also includes a wheel with Ø 20 cm and 12 cm height, and one with Ø 30 cm and 4.6 cm height. The smaller wheel is taller, while the larger one has a bigger work surface and is lower. The 8 cm height sits in between.
