Botz Stoneware Engobe 9804 Swimmingpool – opaque blue-turquoise for stoneware

Botz stoneware engobe 9804 Swimmingpool colours stoneware in an opaque blue-turquoise. Without glaze it fires to a soft, matt, earthy finish, and outlines stay crisp. It is stable in the firing range of 1180 to 1280 °C, which suits the usual stoneware firings.

Under a clear glaze, for example Botz 9300 or 9870, the colour becomes more intense and vivid, and the surface turns glossy. The engobe can be mixed with other colours from the Botz Edition, so you can create your own blues and greens without buying a new colour.

Applying the engobe

Apply the engobe to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay. Stir it well before use so the colour pigments are evenly distributed.

• Apply 2 to 3 coats
• Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next
• Then fire within the firing range of 1180–1280 °C

Matt on its own or glossy under glaze

Applied on its own, 9804 Swimmingpool stays matt and earthy. This works well for designs with clean lines, as the engobe keeps crisp outlines. If you would rather have a vivid, glossy shade, cover the piece with a clear glaze. The colour effect can vary slightly depending on the glaze and the clay; a test piece in your own clay will show you the result beforehand.

Choosing from the series

Botz stoneware engobes come in several shades, such as 9801 Weiß, 9802 Avocado, 9803 Miami and 9805 Blau. As they can be mixed with one another, you can lighten Swimmingpool with white or vary it with another shade.
