Glorex Gilding Size – Adhesive Base for Metal Leaf and Gilding

Glorex gilding size is a water-based adhesive base that holds metal leaf when gilding, silvering or coppering. You brush it thinly onto the surface, leave it to become tacky and then lay the metal leaf on top. It is suitable for wood, glass, ceramic, metal, papier-mâché, polystyrene, concrete and wax and is intended for indoor use.

The bottle contains 20 ml. That is enough for smaller decorations and craft projects. Metal leaf is not included. Glorex offers it in gold, silver and copper.

Working with the gilding size

The surface should be clean and dry. Then proceed in this order:

• Apply the gilding size thinly and evenly with a soft brush
• Leave to become tacky for approx. 30 minutes, until the surface is only slightly sticky
• Carefully lay the metal leaf on top
• Gently press down and smooth with a soft, dry brush
• Gently remove any excess

Avoiding mistakes and protecting the gilding

If you apply the gilding size too thickly, the metal leaf may later look uneven and wavy. It is better to brush it on thinly and evenly. As a finish, Glorex recommends its varnish for metal leaf. It protects the finished surface.

Contains 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one, 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one and a mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1). May produce an allergic reaction.
