UHU Holzleim ORIGINAL D2 – wood glue for bonding and laminating wood indoors

UHU Holzleim ORIGINAL is a solvent-free white wood glue based on a polyvinyl acetate dispersion, for bonding and laminating wood indoors. It is white and dries transparent. According to UHU, it is suitable for virtually all hard, soft and exotic woods, including veneer and HPL on wood. For bonding large surfaces, you can also use it on chipboard, multiplex, MDF, hardboard, softboard, paper and card.

The glue complies with EN 204 D2. This means it is intended for interiors where occasional, brief periods of higher humidity occur, as long as the moisture content of the wood stays below 18 %. It is moisture-resistant, but according to UHU its water resistance is limited. For components that may get wet, UHU recommends UHU Holz Max (EN 204 D4). The glue is designed for well-fitting, non-load-bearing wooden constructions with dowel, mortise and tenon, dovetail or finger joints. It does not fill gaps.

Gluing wood step by step

The surface should be clean, dry and free of dust. The working and material temperature should be at least +5 °C, and the moisture content of the wood 8–12 %. Degrease oily woods beforehand with thinner.

• Apply the glue thinly and evenly to one or both parts with a brush or spreader.
• Leave it to soak in for a few minutes; the open time is 8 minutes.
• Press the parts together and hold them in place with a clamp or press for 1–2 hours, at a pressure of 2–5 kg/cm².
• If needed, you can thin the glue with water to its original viscosity.

Leftovers, storage and finishing

Wipe off fresh glue immediately with water. Dried residue can only be removed mechanically, so it is worth removing any excess straight after clamping. The joint can easily be painted over. Close the bottle carefully after use and store it in a dry, cool, frost-free place. According to UHU, the glue keeps for at least 24 months from the date of manufacture when unopened; once opened, its shelf life is limited.
