The YKK metal trouser zip is a closed-end zip, 18 cm long, with gold-coloured teeth. You can fit it in trousers, jeans and bags.

With a chain width of 5 mm, the metal teeth are sturdier than those of fine plastic or coil zips. That suits heavier fabrics such as denim or leather, for example in the pockets of leather jackets. The tape is 30 mm wide, which leaves you enough margin for sewing it in. Choose your colour from the options.

Inserting the zip

Closed-end means the chain is firmly closed at one end. It is therefore suited to trouser flies and pockets, not to jackets that need to open completely. Sew it in with a zip foot and make sure the needle does not hit the metal teeth, as it could break. For denim or leather, use a suitable heavy-duty needle and sew slowly.

Measure the opening or slit given in your pattern and choose the matching length. In this range, the gold-coloured version is also available in 14, 16 and 20 cm, and the silver-coloured version in 12 and 16 cm.
