BeaverCraft Polishing Compounds P03 – three grits for the leather strop
The BeaverCraft polishing compound set P03 consists of three compounds in white, red and green, which you use to polish blades on a leather strop. The compounds are waxy and, according to the manufacturer, are made up of 80% aluminium oxide, 18% grease and 2% kerosene.
The three grits (600, 1500 and 3000) are graded to follow on from one another. You work your way from pre-polishing through intermediate polishing to a mirror finish without needing any additional compounds. The set contains 3 bars of approx. 25 g each.
Working from coarse to fine
Rub a thin layer of compound onto the leather of the strop; a little is enough. Draw the blade flat across the leather with the spine leading and the edge trailing, at the angle of the existing bevel. Use a separate leather surface or a separate strop for each compound so that the grits do not mix. The coarser compound would otherwise scratch the fine polish.
- White (600): first step, for pre-polishing
- Red (1500): intermediate polishing
- Green (3000): final polishing for a mirror finish
Which compound do you need?
For a clean progression, use all three compounds in turn. On a blade that is already well polished, red and green are often enough, and for the final shine you use the green compound. The micron figures help you tell the compounds apart: the smaller the value, the finer the polish.
