Prym Standard-Elastic 10 mm white – boil-proof elastic for threading through casings

Prym Standard-Elastic (art. no. 910165) is a 10 mm wide white elastic that you thread through the casings of skirts and trousers, pyjamas, jackets and many other sewing projects. The 25 m roll is practical if you want to fit out several garments or cut elastic to different lengths.

The elastic has a zigzag pattern, and the rubber threads lie evenly side by side. According to Prym, this gives an evenly distributed stretch. It is boil-proof, washable up to 95 °C and suitable for the tumble dryer, so it also suits clothing that is often washed hot. Prym has certified the elastic to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, product class I.

Threading the elastic

Measure the circumference the elastic needs to hold and cut it slightly shorter, so that it is under tension once threaded. Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and push it through the casing without twisting the elastic. Then overlap the ends slightly and sew them together with a narrow zigzag stitch or several straight stitches. Finally, close the opening in the casing.

When is 10 mm the right width?

At 10 mm wide, the elastic is narrow and fits narrow casings, for example on lightweight fabrics, pyjama trousers or sleeve cuffs. For wide waistbands you can thread several elastics side by side or choose a wider version.
