Stable stoneware clay for medium-sized ceramic work

Goerg & Schneider Clay Body 468 is a white to light cream-firing stoneware clay containing 40% grog with a fine grain size of 0–0.5 mm. It combines excellent dimensional stability with good plastic properties, making it particularly suitable for hand-building medium-sized ceramic pieces.

The high grog content supports the clay during shaping and drying. At the same time, its fine grain allows for a comparatively even surface and comfortable handling. Clay Body 468 is suitable for vessels, sculptures, decorative objects and other demanding hand-building projects.

Its carefully balanced composition provides high dry strength, helping constructed forms remain stable during the sensitive drying stage. The wide firing range from 1000°C to 1260°C also offers flexibility when selecting a firing temperature and compatible glazes.

After firing, the stoneware clay develops a subtle white to light cream colour. This natural appearance provides a versatile base for glazes, slips and other ceramic decoration techniques.

Our recommendation: Allow medium-sized and thick-walled pieces to dry slowly and evenly. Loosely cover sensitive areas during the initial drying stage to prevent sections with different wall thicknesses from drying unevenly. We recommend carrying out a test firing before using a new glaze.
