The thread is a 3-ply twist in No. 30, with an evenly round cross-section that, according to Gütermann, gives a particularly raised effect. It has a silk-like sheen, is soft and supple, tear-resistant and abrasion-resistant, and lightfast and colourfast. With 7 colours in the set, you can combine contrasts or tone-on-tone accents without having to buy whole large reels.

What the topstitching thread is for

The thicker, raised thread adds visible accents: for decorative seams on clothing and accessories, for topstitching and for hand-sewn eyelet buttonholes. Gütermann recommends it for medium-weight to heavy fabrics and weaves, where the seam shows to good effect. At 30 m per reel, it suits details and contrast trims; for very long seams, plan for more thread accordingly.

Sewing with the topstitching thread

Use a universal needle NM 100–120 so that the thick thread runs cleanly through the fabric. Gütermann recommends the topstitching thread as the needle thread, together with Sew-all thread as the bobbin thread. Try out the stitch pattern and thread tension on a fabric scrap before sewing your project.
