Schmincke HORADAM watercolour tin with 47 colours and ONETZ wetting agent
The Schmincke metal tin contains 47 HORADAM watercolour paints and the wetting agent ONETZ in 48 half pans. It gives you a wide colour range for painting in the studio or on the move. The range includes opaque and transparent colours. Selected gum arabic is used as the binder. According to Schmincke, the paints are highly pigmented and differ clearly from the AKADEMIE quality.
The tin is lacquered black on the outside and white on the inside. The lid serves as a mixing palette, and a thumb ring on the base gives a secure hold when you paint standing up or with the tin in your hand.
Working with the tin
Moisten the paint in the pan with a wet brush and wait briefly until it dissolves. Mix in the palette in the lid. According to Schmincke, dried paint left on the palette can be reactivated and used again, so you do not have to throw anything away. ONETZ is a wetting agent: add it to your mixing water as needed if the paint does not flow evenly on the paper. It reduces the surface tension of the water.
Choosing the right tin
With 47 colours, you can take many shades straight from the pan and need to mix less. This is practical for landscapes, portraits and botanical subjects, where many nuances are needed. For travelling light, the series also offers a tin with 8 half pans and a water tank. If you prefer to glaze large areas, the set with 12 tubes of 5 ml is the better choice.
