Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer Artists' Watercolour Pencils, Tin of 12

Albrecht Dürer Watercolour Pencils, Set of 12 – Draw, Then Blend with Water

With the Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer artists' watercolour pencils in the tin of 12 (art. no. 117512), you first draw as you would with coloured pencils and then blend the marks with a wet brush into watercolour washes. The lead is fully water-soluble and 3.8 mm thick. The colour goes on softly and with rich intensity.

With just a few brushstrokes, the colour can be spread out finely or over larger areas. Depending on the paper, it dissolves completely and then behaves like classic watercolour paint. Faber-Castell uses pigments with very good lightfastness, so the pencils are also suitable for work that you want to keep or display for a long time.

Working with watercolour pencils

Start by drawing outlines and areas dry. Then take a damp brush and draw the colour out over the lines. With plenty of water it spreads into a wash; with little water the strokes stay visible. If you pick up colour with the brush directly from the pencil tip, you can also paint details. Choose a paper that can cope with moisture, such as watercolour paper. Thin drawing paper tends to cockle.

Which set size to choose

The series is also available as a tin of 24, 36, 60 and 120. The set of 12 is good for trying the pencils out and for sketches. If you later need more shades, you can buy the pencils individually or in a larger assortment.
