Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 Coloured Pencils, Set of 12

Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 – 12 permanent coloured pencils with creamy leads

The Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 set of 12 contains twelve permanent artist coloured pencils for drawings, portraits and botanical illustrations. The lead is creamy, 3.8 mm in diameter and highly pigmented. This gives you opaque colour coverage, soft blends and fine shading. According to Caran d'Ache, the lightfastness meets the highest international standards (ASTM D6901).

The set contains the colour numbers 001, 009, 030, 061, 159, 162, 220, 240, 470, 571, 585 and 661. The selection includes white, black, yellow, orange, red, pink, brown, two greens and three blues. The barrel is made of FSC™-certified cedar wood and is round. The matt end is the colour of the lead and shows the colour number and colour name, so you can find the shade you need in the case quickly. The pencils are made in Switzerland (Swiss Made).

Working with the pencils

The lead is soft and richly pigmented. Build up areas of colour in several thin layers and only increase the pressure at the end. This keeps the transitions soft, and the colours can be layered and mixed. For shading and hatching, combine shades from the set, for example brown with blue for cool shadows. According to Caran d'Ache, mixed-media work is also possible. If you are planning particularly fine details, it is best to work them with a very sharp point.

Watercolour effects and combinations

The LUMINANCE 6901 are dry, permanent pencils. For watercolour effects, Caran d'Ache recommends combining them with SUPRACOLOR Soft Aquarelle, and for details and hatching with PABLO. The set of 12 is a good introduction to the series. If you need more shades, the LUMINANCE 6901 is also available as a set of 20.
