Norma Professional from Schmincke is an artists' oil paint of the finest quality for demanding oil painting, here in the 200 ml size for pictures where you need a lot of paint. The paint is made in Germany, formulated with the environment in mind and produced with renewable raw materials such as purely vegetable oils. According to Schmincke, the oil combinations used reduce the tendency to yellow. Choose your colour from the options.

The consistency is creamy and buttery, and the pigments are ground in at a high concentration: on three-roller mills, with three months of maturing before filling. This gives you high yield and even drying within each colour. All colours in the series have the highest lightfastness (4–5 stars), so your paintings stay colour-stable.

Working with Norma Professional

Schmincke recommends applying the paint in thin layers. This is the best basis for even drying through and fewer cracks. For impasto or palette knife techniques, the manufacturer recommends Malbutter (50 034). It speeds up the drying of thick layers and reduces the risk of cracking. Norma Professional can be mixed without restriction with MUSSINI artists' resin oil colours and with other oil paints, so you can add to the colours you already have.

Which size and which colour?

All 84 colours in the series are available in 35 ml, 48 of them in 120 ml and 12 in 200 ml. The 200 ml size is worthwhile above all for colours you need in large quantities, such as base tones and large areas. Whether a colour is opaque, semi-opaque or transparent depends on the pigment in question. The range includes 27 transparent colours alongside opaque ones, so check the information for your chosen colour before buying.

Disposal tip

Rags and paper towels soaked in oil can ignite spontaneously. Leave them to dry spread out flat, or collect them in a sealed metal container.
