Schmincke Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil – Binder for Grinding Non-White Oil Colours
Schmincke cold-pressed linseed oil is a binder additive for oil paints and oil painting auxiliaries. It is natural, degummed and comes from the first pressing. You use it mainly for grinding non-white oil colours, for example when you make your own paint from pigment.
Compared with Schmincke Linseed Oil, purified (50015), it dries a little more slowly and yellows a little more. Bear this in mind when choosing the oil for your paint mixture. The oil is ready to use and can be thinned with white spirit (50019) if needed.
Using the linseed oil
For grinding, add the oil to the pigment a little at a time and work it in thoroughly. How much oil you need depends greatly on the type and amount of pigment. A test batch shows you the right quantity before you mix larger amounts. As an additive to ready-made oil paints and oil painting auxiliaries, use it in the amount your test shows to be suitable.
Cleaning and storage
Clean brushes and tools straight after use, while the oil has not yet dried. Close the container immediately after each use and store it in a cool, dry place.
