Schmincke Gouache Binder – ready to use for grinding your own gouache paints

Schmincke Gouache Binder Ready to use is a ready-mixed binder that you use to grind Schmincke artists' pigments into velvety gouache paints. There is nothing to prepare: you add it straight to the pigment. That way you can mix colours in exactly the quantity you need.

Only the binder (200 ml) is included; pigments are not included.

Making gouache paint

Shake the bottle before use. Start with about 2 parts binder to 1 part pigment (by weight) and grind the two together with a spatula on a glass plate or smooth palette to an even paste. If pigment grains are still visible, keep grinding for longer. The mixing ratio is a starting point, as pigments absorb different amounts of binder. A test on your painting surface shows you how the paint dries before you mix a larger batch.

Painting properties and storage

The ground paint can be diluted with water and, once dry, is smudge-proof but not waterproof. You can therefore re-wet it with water, for example to reactivate dried paint on the palette. Close the bottle immediately after use, store it in a cool, dry place and protect it from frost. Clean your tools with water.
