Caran d'Ache NEOART 6901 wax and oil pastels, set of 12

Caran d'Ache NEOART 6901 – 12 lightfast wax/oil pastels in a set

The Caran d'Ache NEOART 6901 set contains 12 octagonal wax and oil pastel sticks for drawing and painting on paper, card, canvas or wood. According to the manufacturer, it is the first wax/oil pastel to meet ASTM D-6901, with a lightfastness of up to 100 years. Your work will therefore keep its colour for a long time, even when displayed in the light.

The texture comes from soft wax combined with rich oil. The sticks are designed and made in Switzerland. The set of 12 includes 6 colours made from a single pigment, 9 colours in the highest lightfastness class LFI and 3 colours in class LFII.

Working with the pastels

The soft texture goes on easily and blends well. Apply the colour lightly at first and add further layers on top if you want to deepen the tone or mix colours. To blend, use your finger or a paper stump. The octagonal shape stops the sticks from rolling away. Draw lines with the tip and cover areas generously with the broad side. Caran d'Ache lists paper, card, canvas, wood and glass as suitable surfaces. Rough, textured paper generally takes up more pigment than very smooth paper.

What is in the set of 12?

With lemon yellow, purple red, ultramarine, white and black as well as earth, green and violet shades, the set covers a wide colour range. Six colours are made from a single pigment. The whole NEOART range comprises 48 shades, so you can add to the set later. Each stick carries an easily removable paper label showing the colour name and the lightfastness class (LFI or LFII).
