Conté à Paris Sketching Pencil – sketching pencil with 5 mm lead
The Conté à Paris Sketching Pencil is a sketching pencil with a 5 mm thick lead. You can use it to draw landscapes, nudes, portraits and still life. According to the manufacturer, it is aimed at professional artists as well as students. The pencils are sold individually. Choose your colour from the options.
At 177 mm long, the pencil sits comfortably in the hand. It is made in France.
Working with the sketching pencil
The thick lead lets you work in different ways depending on how you sharpen it: with a sharpened point you can set down outlines and fine lines, while the side held flat is used to hatch larger areas and build up shaded passages. This suits studies of the figure and landscape, where you want to capture shapes and tonal values quickly. Because the lead is thick, you need a sharpener for thick leads, or you can carefully sharpen it with a sharp knife. Dry drawings can smudge in transit; fixative or a sheet of interleaving paper protects finished work.
Choosing your colour
The pencil is available as a single pencil in various colours. If you would like to combine several tones, choose the colours one after another from the options.
