Caran d'Ache 849™ Rollerball Pen, Blue (846.659)

Caran d'Ache 849™ Rollerball Pen in Blue – retractable, with aluminium barrel

The Caran d'Ache 849™ rollerball pen in blue (ref. 846.659) is a retractable, capless rollerball for anyone who writes by hand every day and wants a slim pen in a metal case. The manufacturer lists the model as the "849™ Roller"; the reference number begins with 846.

The rollerball writes with liquid ink. According to Caran d'Ache, the writing is even and the ink dries within a few seconds, which reduces smudging as you write. Note when choosing the colour: blue refers to the barrel, the ink is black (medium line width).

Writing and refilling

Press the button to extend and retract the tip; there is no cap that could get lost. The clip is flexible and holds the pen in a shirt or jacket pocket. When the ink runs out, replace the refill: only 849™ rollerball refills fit. Refills from the Roller Haute Ecriture line are not compatible, so make sure you order the right type when buying replacements.

Who is the 849™ rollerball for?

The rollerball is made in XL format and the aluminium barrel is hexagonal, so it sits securely between your fingers. It comes in a flat metal case, which is handy for carrying or giving as a gift. The model is also available in grey (matt lacquered); both versions write with black ink, only the barrel differs.
