Schmincke acrylic painting medium, 60 ml – thins acrylic paint and increases gloss and transparency

Schmincke acrylic painting medium is a thin, fluid medium for acrylic painting. You can use it to thin acrylic paints without relying on water alone: the medium dries clear, increases gloss and transparency and, according to Schmincke, improves adhesion compared with water. This makes it suitable for transparent glazes and for layered painting, where you apply several thin, translucent layers on top of one another.

The medium consists of a pure acrylate dispersion, additives and water. It is ready to use and can be mixed with water in any ratio. The bottle holds 60 ml, which makes it a good size for trying it out or for smaller projects. The same formulation is also available in a 250 ml container.

How to use the medium

Shake the bottle well before use. Put a little medium on the palette and mix it with your acrylic paint. The more medium you add, the more transparent and glaze-like the application becomes. For layered painting, apply the layers thinly and let each one dry before adding the next.

Working, cleaning and storage

Like acrylic paint, the medium dries water-resistant. Clean brushes and palette with water straight after painting, using a little soap if needed. Close the container again immediately after use. Only use the medium at temperatures above 10 °C and protect it from frost and from temperatures above 40 °C.
