The KnitPro ZING straight knitting needle set contains 8 pairs of straight knitting needles in lightweight aluminium, each 40 cm long. The sizes run from 2.5 to 6 mm in steps of 0.5 mm. You can knit flat pieces in rows, for example scarves, cardigan pieces or jumpers worked in separate pieces, and have the usual sizes for sock yarn up to thicker yarn in one set.

Each needle size has its own metallic shade. The size is also laser-engraved and stays legible with normal use. This way you can find the right needle quickly, even when several pairs are lying on the table. The tips taper evenly, and the smooth finish lets the stitches glide well. The set is stored in a fabric case with a zip, which is also handy for taking with you.

Which needle size should you use?

The right size is given on the ball band of your yarn or in your pattern. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. With 2.5 to 3.5 mm you knit finer yarns, with 4 to 6 mm yarns of medium thickness. Because the set goes up in steps of 0.5 mm, you can go half a size up or down if your tension swatch does not match.

Knitting with straight needles

You knit straight needles row by row, back and forth, switching the needle from one hand to the other after every row. This suits scarves, blankets and cardigan pieces that are sewn together later. For very wide pieces with many stitches, 40 cm becomes cramped. In that case it is better to use a circular needle and knit back and forth in rows on it.
