The KINTSUGI Kit from Graine Créative is a craft kit for repairing broken crockery or ceramics using the Japanese kintsugi technique. You highlight the breaks with gold metallic effect powder, turning the pieces into a decorative object with a visible gold seam.

The kit contains everything needed for the repair itself: gold-coloured metallic effect powder, a 2-component epoxy resin, 1 stick, 1 brush and detailed instructions for use. You will need to provide the items for protection and preparation yourself (see below).

Repair

The exact mixing ratios and curing times are given in the instructions for use in the kit. The rough procedure is as follows:

• Cover your work surface with a protective sheet, put on gloves and make sure the room is well ventilated.
• Clean the broken edges and fit the pieces together without glue first, so you know the order.
• Mix the resin according to the instructions and apply a thin layer to the broken edges with the stick and brush.
• Join the pieces, remove any excess fresh resin straight away and let the resin cure completely.
• Highlight the seam with the gold metallic effect powder; cured resin residue can be carefully removed with the blade.

Who is the kit for?

The kit is for anyone who would rather repair a cherished piece and leave the repair visible than throw it away. It is intended for decorative objects; once repaired, the crockery should no longer be used for food. The better the broken edges fit, the finer the gold seam will be. If small fragments are missing, gaps will remain, which you should plan to include as part of the look. As epoxy resin can cause allergic reactions, wear gloves throughout the work.
