ABIG paper pulp 500 g – cellulose for making handmade paper
ABIG paper pulp is made from pressed beech and spruce cellulose. You use it to make up pulp for making your own paper, for example for cards, invitations or art projects at school, in the workshop or in the craft room. The pack contains 500 g in pressed sheets.
According to ABIG, the pulp dissolves very easily in lukewarm water. To get started, you mainly need water and a little patience while it soaks.
Making paper from the raw pulp
The process is similar for all handmade papers. The more thoroughly the sheets break down, the more even the paper surface will be.
- Soaking: tear the cellulose sheets into small pieces and soak them in plenty of water.
- Scooping: lift the softened pulp out of the water vat with the mould and deckle.
- Couching: lay the freshly formed sheet on a felt and press it gently.
- Pressing: place between two felts and remove as much water as possible with a press or clamps.
- Drying: peel the paper off the felt and lay it flat.
- Smoothing: press again before it is completely dry, then smooth with an iron.
Tips for even sheets
Stir the pulp in the vat briefly before each scoop, as the fibres settle at the bottom. The smaller you tear the sheets before soaking, the faster they break down. The finished paper is suitable for cards, invitations and art projects.
