The Renaissance wax-coated glass beads in the red mix from Rayher are large-hole beads for threading your own necklaces, bracelets and pendants. The tin contains 32 beads, each 10 mm in diameter. The beads have 16 coats of lacquer and, according to Rayher, are highly lightfast, resistant to abrasion and sweat, and highly resistant to perfume. That matters for jewellery that is worn often and comes into contact with skin and care products.

The range is available in other colour mixes with the same size and the same large hole. You can combine the red mix with other shades without the bead size changing.

Using the beads

Choose a ribbon or cord that passes easily through the 2 mm hole. The large hole also takes somewhat thicker cords than standard beads would. Lay the beads out in the order you want before threading them: you can see how the colours in the mix play together and gauge the length of the necklace. With knots between the beads, they sit firmly on the cord and do not slide together. The beads are 10 mm, so even a few of them make an accent. For a whole necklace, plan on several tins, depending on the length you want.
