Rayher Raysin 200 – white casting powder for larger castings

Rayher Raysin 200 is a white, air-hardening casting powder made from natural calcium sulphate. You mix it with water, pour it into a mould and get castings with a soft, ultra-matt surface. The powder is odourless and food-neutral. According to Rayher, it is also suitable for casting with children.

Raysin 200 has a higher strength (200 N/mm²) than the standard type. This makes it suitable for larger items such as figures, decorative tiles and bowls. The 400 g is a manageable amount for trying out the compound or casting smaller projects.

Casting with Raysin 200

Keep the powder and water at 18–25 °C, which is the best range according to Rayher. Mix 1 part water with 3.5 parts Raysin 200. Put the water in the container first, then sprinkle in the powder and stir until the mixture is free of lumps. Pour it into the mould and tap the mould gently on the work surface so that air bubbles rise to the top. After approx. 30 minutes you can demould the piece. The compound shrinks slightly as it dries, which makes it easier to release from the mould. Depending on its size, a piece is completely dry after a few days.

Which Raysin type to choose

Raysin 200 is intended for larger, sturdy pieces. For small, delicate pieces, Rayher names Raysin 100, which has a lower strength and a different mixing ratio. For large projects, it is better to plan the quantity using the larger pack sizes in this series, which range from 1 kg to 25 kg. Never mix more than you can pour within a few minutes, as the compound hardens.

After casting

Cast pieces absorb water and are not intended for permanent exposure to water, for example as a flower vase or bird bath. A clear varnish protects the surface, but this does not make it one hundred per cent waterproof or weatherproof. Do not pour leftovers down the drain; let them harden and dispose of them with household waste.
