Rayher 3D hand casting kit – plaster casts with moulding compound and Raysin

With the Rayher 3D hand casting kit (art. no. 34471000) you make three-dimensional plaster casts of hands, both children's and adults'. The set contains all the essentials: 500 g of blue, skin-safe moulding compound, 1000 g of Raysin 100 plaster powder, a bucket as a moulding container, sandpaper, 3 wooden skewers and instructions.

The moulding compound sets quickly and turns rubbery as it does. First you take the impression of the hands in the moulding compound, then you pour white plaster into the resulting mould. The mould can only be used once, so allow for one session per cast.

How the hand cast is made

According to Rayher, you proceed in this order.

• Moulding compound: put 1.5 l of cold water in the bucket and sprinkle in the powder while stirring with a hand mixer.
• Dip the hands in the desired position, wait briefly and pull them out carefully.
• Raysin: mix 1 kg with 400 ml of water to a thick, lump-free mixture.
• Pour the plaster into the mould as soon as the moulding compound has set.
• Leave to harden for at least 8 hours, then peel off the elastic moulding compound.
• Finish the model with the sandpaper if needed.

Good to know

The moulding compound quickly turns rubbery. Once it has, the hand can no longer be dipped in cleanly. So have everything ready beforehand: scales, hand mixer, container, whisk and the position in which the hand is to be cast. Only mix the moulding compound once everyone is ready, and dip in promptly. It is best to mix the Raysin until free of lumps, so that no air pockets or lumps show up in the cast. The wooden skewers help you with stirring and with positioning the mixture in the mould.
