da Vinci CASANEO extra long rigger brush – for fine, long lines and watercolour

The da Vinci CASANEO rigger brush, pointed, extra long (series 1298, size 8) is a vegan synthetic brush for fine lines, decorative strokes and detailed watercolour techniques. The extra long, extra soft fibres are bound to a point, are very springy and hold plenty of paint. This means you can draw longer strokes in one go without re-dipping in between.

The brush has a silver ferrule and a short, polished black esagonale handle (hexagonal). The short handle sits firmly in the hand and helps you control your lines when working close up.

Using the rigger brush

A rigger is made for long, even lines. Load the brush well with paint and wipe it off only lightly so that the paint stays in the long fibres. Place the tip on the paper and draw the stroke in one steady movement from the hand or arm, not bit by bit. If you hold the brush almost upright, the lines stay thin. With a little more pressure they become bolder. It is best to practise this beforehand on a test sheet.

Choosing a brush

Compared with a standard round brush, the extra long rigger holds considerably more paint in its fibres and is therefore suited to longer lines. For shorter strokes, the CASANEO range also includes medium-length riggers, for example series 1290. Clear, lukewarm water is enough for rinsing; leave the brush to dry lying flat.
