YKK Zip 45 cm – Fine Coil, Closed-End, in Black

The YKK zip type CFC-36 in 45 cm is a fine black polyester coil zip with a standard slider. You can sew it into skirts, dresses, trousers or cushions.

Closed-end means the two halves are firmly joined at the bottom and cannot be pulled apart. This suits openings that stay closed at the bottom; for jackets you need an open-ended zip. The coil is flexible, light and soft, so the zip follows curves such as the waist and hip.

Inserting the zip

Pin or tack the zip in place before sewing so that nothing slips. Sew close to the coil using a zip foot. With stretchy or very soft fabrics, stabilise the seam allowance beforehand with a narrow strip of interfacing, otherwise the seam will quickly ripple.

Choosing the length

Measure the opening on your sewing pattern and allow for the seam allowance at the end. The type CFC-36 is also available in other lengths.
