Meyco Fretsaw with Wooden Handle – 5 Saw Blades for Wood, Metal and Soapstone

The Meyco fretsaw (art. no. 65076) is a simple hand saw for cutting metal, wood, plastics, soapstone and many other materials. It is 30.5 cm long and has a wooden handle. Five saw blades are included, so if a blade breaks you can carry on working straight away.

A fretsaw lets you cut shapes and curves out of thin material, for example for craft projects, marquetry or figures made of wood and soapstone.

How to saw cleanly

Clamp the workpiece firmly so that it cannot shift, and position the saw so that you are standing directly in front of the cut. On fretsaw blades the teeth usually point towards the handle, so you cut on the pull stroke. Guide the saw with even, long strokes and light pressure: the blade does the cutting itself, and too much pressure or twisting sideways will quickly break thin blades. Cut tight curves slowly and turn the workpiece rather than twisting the saw. Soft soapstone can be worked quickly, whereas with metal you work more slowly and steadily so that the blade does not overheat. The saw is a sharp tool: keep your free hand out of the cutting line.
