Clover buttonhole cutter – open buttonholes cleanly and straight

With the Clover buttonhole cutter (art. no. 484/W) you open sewn buttonholes cleanly and straight. The chisel-ground steel blade is 12 mm wide and cuts the slit between the bars of stitching. The handle is made of ABS resin with a non-slip elastomer insert, so the cutter sits securely in your hand as you press down. According to Clover, it is also suitable for small cuts and for cuts through curves.

How to open a buttonhole

First sew the buttonhole completely. Then place the area on a small piece of wood, set the blade upright in the centre between the bars of stitching and press it down in a controlled way. The wood protects the blade and the tabletop. To avoid cutting past the end of the buttonhole, you can place a pin at the end of the bars of stitching as a stop. The blade is 12 mm wide; for very small buttonholes, you should try it out on a scrap of fabric first.
