The canvas is 7-count, which is 3 crosses per cm. Because it is stiff and the holes are larger than on fabric, it is easier to hold and you find the stitch positions faster. This helps especially when you are starting out with embroidery, as you do not need an embroidery hoop and the star does not warp.

Stitching on plastic canvas

A cross stitch consists of two diagonal stitches that cross in the middle. Work with a blunt tapestry needle, as it glides through the large holes without splitting the thread.

• Bring the thread up from the back through a hole and take it diagonally down into the opposite hole.
• Stitch the diagonals of a whole row in one direction, then return with the opposite stitches so that all the top stitches lie the same way.
• Run the thread ends along the back under stitches already worked and cut them off there.
