Leather-Look Handbag Base, 36 × 13 cm – Starting Point for Crocheted Bags

The Go Handmade handbag base is a bag base made of black faux leather (PU leather) for DIY handbags. It measures 36 × 13 cm and has 4 mm diameter holes all the way round. You crochet or sew the body of the bag directly into these holes.

The corners are rounded, which gives the bag a soft base shape. The black leather look goes with yarns in almost any colour. The 36 × 13 cm size is intended for a medium to large bag; the base is also available in a smaller size and in beige.

Working with the bag base

To crochet, start with a round of double crochet, one in each hole. The holes set the spacing, so the edge comes out even. If needed, you can work an extra stitch in the curves of the corners so that the side wall does not pull in. Alternatively, sew fabric or leather on through the holes with a strong thread. Choose a yarn that passes easily through the 4 mm holes, and do not work the first round too loosely, so that the base can later carry the weight of the bag.
