A natural clay mixture created during a change of qualities

Goerg & Schneider Transition Clay is produced when manufacturing changes from one clay body to the next. It therefore combines properties of two consecutive clay qualities. Colour, plasticity, grog content, texture and firing behaviour may vary slightly between batches.

The clay is technically sound and particularly suitable for hand-building small to medium-sized ceramic pieces. It is an economical choice for practice pieces, creative projects, schools, workshops and pottery classes.

After firing, the transition clay generally develops a light to cream-coloured appearance. As its exact composition depends on the production batch, it does not have the precisely defined properties of a regular standard clay body.

The recommended firing range is 1000°C to 1150°C. If your project requires an exactly reproducible fired colour, specific grog content or clearly defined technical properties, we recommend choosing a regular clay body.

Our recommendation: Make a test piece and carry out a test firing with the intended glaze and firing temperature before starting a larger project. If possible, avoid mixing different batches within the same ceramic piece.
