Gütermann Water Repellent sew-all thread Col. 3 – water-repellent thread for outdoor projects

The Gütermann Water Repellent sew-all thread set Col. 3 contains 4 reels of 100 m each of water-repellent sewing thread made from 100 % polyester, 400 m in total. You can use it for topstitching and joining seams on rain jackets, trench coats, outdoor clothing, rain hats, bags and even dog coats.

The thread is made with Micro Core Technology®. You can use it as needle thread and bobbin thread, on the sewing machine as well as by hand. According to Gütermann, it sews without any special machine settings, even with fine universal or Microtex needles up to NM 70. This means you can also use it on thinner, tightly woven outdoor fabrics.

Using the thread

Choose the needle to suit the fabric: for fine, tightly woven rainwear fabrics, a Microtex needle is suitable, and you can use the thread with it up to NM 70. Thread it as both needle thread and bobbin thread so that the seam stays water-repellent throughout. Sew a test seam on an offcut of your fabric beforehand and check the stitch appearance and stitch length. The thread is water-repellent, but the needle holes remain in the fabric. Whether a seam actually stays watertight in the rain therefore also depends on the fabric and stitch length.

Which set to choose

The 4-reel set comes in three colour assortments (Col. 1 to 3). This set is assortment Col. 3; you can see the colours of the reels in the product image. If you need more thread for larger projects or several garments, Gütermann also offers a set with 10 reels of 100 m each.
