Staedtler Noris aquarell 36 Watercolour Pencils Set with Brush

Staedtler Noris aquarell set of 36 – water-soluble colouring pencils with brush

The Staedtler Noris aquarell set of 36 contains 36 water-soluble colouring pencils in assorted colours and a brush for watercolour effects. You draw first as you would with an ordinary colouring pencil, then turn the lines into soft, transparent areas of colour with water. The pencils are hexagonal and can also be used dry.

The white A·B·S (Anti-Break System) jacket reinforces the lead core and increases break resistance, so fewer leads snap when sharpening and drawing. The wood is PEFC-certified. Staedtler also states "Made in Germany" for the series.

Working with water and brush

Water-soluble pencils can be used in two ways: dry like ordinary colouring pencils, or wet for watercolour-style effects. Watercolour paper copes with water better than thin drawing paper, which can buckle.

• Apply the colour dry: press a little harder for strong areas, and only lightly for delicate glazes.
• Stroke over the lines with a damp brush: the colour dissolves and blends softly.
• Lighter areas appear when you take the brush with plenty of water over a little colour.
• Rinse the brush in the water pot between colours to keep the tones clean.

Which set to choose

The series is available with 12, 24 and 36 pencils, each with a brush. The set of 36 offers the widest choice of shades. You need to mix less and can create colour gradients with neighbouring tones. The set of 12 or 24 is enough to get started with fewer colours.
