Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight 06 – 3 gel pens with opaque ink for dark paper

The Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight 06 set (Galaxy set) contains 3 fine-tip gel pens for bright, opaque lines on dark and coloured paper. The colours in the set are numbered 422, 431 and 438.

According to the manufacturer, the ink is a water-based pigment gel ink: opaque, odourless, lightfast and waterproof. The ink flow stays constant without pressure, and the fine lines dry quickly. This makes the pens suitable for hand lettering accents, illustrations and comics, journaling, cards and patterns. You can also use them as the top layer in mixed-media work or for highlights in tonal drawings.

What the fine tip is for

The ball measures 0.6 mm and draws a line of 0.3 mm. You can use it to write small lettering, add dots and highlights, and draw fine patterns. On dark paper the opaque ink looks particularly strong and stands out clearly against the background.

Working with the pens

In mixed-media work, use the gel pens last: let any colour layers underneath dry completely first so the lines stay clean. The ink flows even without pressure, so a light stroke is enough. Try the pens out first on an offcut of your paper.

Fine 06 or Bold 10?

The Moonlight series comes in Fine 06 and Bold 10 tip widths. This set has the fine 06 tip for details and thin lines. For broader strokes that cover more area, choose the Bold 10 version.
