Caran d'Ache NEOART 6901 – wax and oil pastel with up to 100 years of lightfastness
The Caran d'Ache NEOART 6901 is a wax and oil pastel, sold as a single stick, for drawing and painting on paper, card, canvas, glass and wood. According to the manufacturer, its texture combines the softness of wax with the richness of oil. The pastel is soft and silky to apply, does not crumble and covers well, so you can lay down even areas of colour.
Caran d'Ache states a lightfastness of up to 100 years. It is the first wax/oil pastel to meet ASTM D-6901, an advantage if your work is to be framed and displayed. It is made in workshops in Geneva (Swiss Made). Choose your colour from the options.
Working with the pastel
The octagonal shape sits well in the hand and does not roll off the table easily. Use the tip for lines and details, and the broad side of the stick for larger areas. Because the pastel is soft, it can be blended on the support. A fixative is not necessary. As the pastel wears down, peel the paper label back bit by bit so that the colour name stays legible for as long as possible.
Single stick or set?
NEOART 6901 is available as single sticks and in sets of 12, 24 or 48 colours. The range comprises 48 colours, of which 34 belong to lightfastness class LFI and 14 to class LFII. Single sticks let you top up an existing set with the colours you use up fastest.
