Faber-Castell Pitt pastel pencils are artists' pencils for pastel drawings with fine detail. The set, art. no. 112124, contains 24 pencils in a metal tin. The leads are wax- and oil-free, have a high pigment content and give rich, saturated colour.

With a lead diameter of 4.3 mm, the leads are sturdy. According to Faber-Castell, they are acid-free and very lightfast, so your work keeps its colour for a long time. The pencils complement classic pastel sticks when edges, outlines or small areas need to be more precise than a stick allows.

Working with Pitt pastel pencils

Draw outlines and details with the tip of the pencil and lay in larger tones loosely with the side of the lead. You can blend the colours with your finger or a paper stump, which creates soft colour gradients just like pastel sticks. Because the leads contain neither wax nor oil, the pigments stay easy to blend and can be layered on top of each other. Sharpen the pencils with a sharp knife and do not press too hard, so the lead does not break.

Fixing

According to Faber-Castell, only minimal fixing is needed, and the colour brilliance is retained. Spray the fixative sparingly and from a reasonable distance, especially on dark colours and fine details.

The series is available as a 12, 24, 36 and 60 metal tin. The set of 24 gives you more choice than the smallest set, so you can place tones without lengthy mixing. Larger sets contain correspondingly more pencils.
