Caran d'Ache 849 Alpine Frost Special Edition Mechanical Pencil

Caran d'Ache 849 Mechanical Pencil – Alpine Frost Special Edition with 0.5 mm HB Lead

The Caran d'Ache 849 mechanical pencil in the Alpine Frost Special Edition is a refillable pencil for school, office, study and sketching. The hexagonal aluminium body is light and durable. The 0.5 mm HB graphite lead fitted in it writes finely and evenly, suitable for notes, neat handwriting and lines. The pencil is made in Switzerland. Choose your colour from the options.

There is a flexible clip on the barrel and an eraser at the end. This means you can make corrections straight away with the pencil, without looking for a separate eraser. The pencil comes in a cardboard box with a sliding opening.

What the 849 mechanical pencil is suited to

A 0.5 mm lead gives a fine, clean line. This suits notes, school exercise books, technical sketches and detailed drawings. HB is a medium hardness: the lead is dark enough for easily legible writing and does not smudge heavily. The metal body sits steadily in the hand and is also suitable for everyday use in a bag, for example with the clip attached to a notebook.

Refilling and care

The mechanical pencil is refillable. You insert new leads into the lead reservoir, which you reach by removing the push-button mechanism. When buying replacements, make sure you choose 0.5 mm leads so that the lead runs cleanly through the tip. While writing, advance the lead with the push button. Do not press it back into the tip with force; only advance it as far as you need. It will then break less often.
