Caran d'Ache 849 Black Code – black fountain pen with medium nib

The Caran d'Ache 849™ Black Code is a black fountain pen from the Black Edition with a stainless steel nib in size M (medium). The barrel and cap are hexagonal and made of lightweight aluminium. The grip section is made of glossy black plastic. The clip and push button are metal with a matt black chrome coating, and the Caran d'Ache isotype is engraved on the button. The nib is made of stainless steel and lacquered black. The pen is Swiss Made.

The medium nib writes even, easy-to-read lines and suits notes, letters and signatures. If you prefer a finer line, the pen is also available with an F nib, under reference 841.496.

Ink and refills

A Chromatics cartridge in Cosmic Black is fitted at the factory, so you can start writing straight away. All Chromatics cartridges fit for refilling. Alternatively, you can draw up ink from a bottle with the ink pump. Whether you change colour or stay with black is simply a matter of the cartridge you choose. When changing colour, rinse the nib briefly with clear water so that the inks do not mix.

Writing and storage

The lightweight aluminium barrel keeps the pen well balanced, even for longer texts. You can clip it to a notebook, bag or folder. The black metal gift box with a hard foam insert is included, for giving as a gift or for storage.
