Honsell Drawing Nib Set 1 – 11 Nibs for Drawing and Calligraphy

The Honsell Drawing Nib Set Art & Calligraphy Set 1 is an assortment of 11 writing and drawing nibs in different shapes and widths, plus 2 pen holders and a lifting magnet. The nibs are mainly suited to drawing, and some also to writing. This lets you find out which line style suits you without buying individual nibs separately.

Everything is stored in a sturdy plastic case with 14 compartments. Each compartment is labelled with the nib type, so you can quickly find the nib you want. The lifting magnet lets you take out the nibs without touching the tip.

Which nib for what?

The set covers several line types. The shapes differ in line width and flexibility, so it is worth making a test sheet with all the nibs.

• Pointed nib No. 111 and lithography nib No. 518 (both extra fine): for fine lines and detail
• Ball-pointed nib No. 300: for evenly rounded lines
• Italic nib No. 70 and ornamental lettering nib No. 400 (0.5 mm each): for calligraphy, where the way you hold the nib gives thick and thin strokes
• Drawing nib hard and No. 700 (medium): for drawings and hatching

Getting started

Use the lifting magnet to insert the chosen nib into the pen holder. New nibs often carry a protective film that makes the ink bead up. Degrease them briefly with a little washing-up liquid and water before first use. Dip the nib only deep enough to cover the ink hole, and wipe excess ink off on the rim of the container to avoid blots. Rinse the nibs after drawing and dry them before putting them back in the compartments.
