The AMI 9-piece calligraphy set contains everything you need to start writing with a nib and ink, plus a wax seal set to finish off your work. The set includes a wooden pen holder, 5 different gold-coloured nibs, a jar of black calligraphy ink, a seal with a metal head and a stick of sealing wax. Everything comes in a black box that also works well as a gift.

With the 5 different nibs you can find out which stroke style suits you, without having to buy them separately. As all the nibs fit the one pen holder, you simply swap them over when needed.

Getting started with nib and ink

Insert one of the nibs into the pen holder and dip it into the ink only up to just above the opening. Wipe excess ink off on the rim of the jar, otherwise you will get blots. Start on smooth paper with simple lines, curves and upstrokes and downstrokes before you write whole letters. Light pressure gives fine lines, more pressure gives broader ones. Clean the nib after writing and dry it so that no ink dries onto it.

Sealing

Carefully melt the sealing wax over a flame and let it drip onto the desired spot on the paper. Press the metal head of the seal briefly and straight into the wax, hold it for a few seconds and then pull it away vertically. Wait until the wax has hardened before touching it.
